During my teenage years, I had never enjoyed camps that much. How could I when all my memories of those days remind me of other teenage boys teasing me about my snoring. And you know how nasty teenage boys could be about making fun of others. I dreaded those days…
Now that I’m all grown up, well, snoring has never left me. It grew with me as well. And the worse thing is, it has become louder than ever. Well, I wouldn’t know without someone telling me about it. Yes, I am married to a loving wife who has to bear with my snoring every single night since our marriage.
I salute my wife for her patience. You need to have a mile-long tolerance to be able to live with (and sleep with) the noise I make during sleep. She would even jokingly tell me sometimes that she has to exhaust herself during the day so as to sleep like a dead log during the night without being affected by my loud snore. She may just say it like a joke but I know deep inside her, the joke was half-meant, or maybe more.
But I got lucky one Saturday afternoon. I had nothing much to do after lunch that day so I decided to get myself occupied with the internet. I was lazily browsing my emails and surfing website after website when I suddenly came upon an advertisement about something that one can wear around the head and chin during sleep to prevent snoring. Yes, it’s the snoring chin strap I’m talking about.
I am not really the type who gets easily convinced with ads plastered all over the web. In fact, I am more of the skeptical type. But you know how it is when it comes to someone’s personal quirks, and mine is about snoring. So I clicked on the ad and read more about it… and that’s where my wife’s sound sleep started after years of “sufferingâ€.
And so I bought a snoring chin strap for myself. For just a few dollars, I made a purchase and waited to see if it would really bring about results. When the package arrived, I was really excited to use it that night. But when my wife saw me wearing it, she couldn’t help but laugh since I really looked funny and ridiculous wearing it. Well, I looked at the mirror and I did look outlandish.
So to make this story short, we went to sleep that night and woke up the following day. I’m used to waking up after my wife but that particular morning, my wife was still sound asleep. And that was one of those moments I saw her sleeping peacefully. It may sound clichéd but I fell in love with her again watching her in her sleep. And when she finally opened her eyes here and told me that it’s been years since she slept that soundly, I couldn’t thank the snoring chin strap enough. And I would gladly pay more just to see my wife happy and well-rested.
